The Vineyard
Our vineyard sits at 912 feet elevation on Sandy loam and Camas Gravelly soils. We benefit from a long growing season, 240 days total, and warm day-time temperatures; however, our position directly at the confluence of two rivers and tucked into the coastal range at the northern terminus of the Applegate Valley creates afternoon breezes and cool nights. As the valley floor heats up during warm summer days, the atmospheric shift brings cool ocean breezes along the Rogue River up and past our vineyard before making their way through the Applegate Valley. Following extensive research and collaboration with industry veterans, we realized we had an ideal microclimate to produce high-quality, cool climate grapes with a unique expression that brings the best qualities of the regions to our north and south into balance.
Roots
The vineyard was planted in 2008 as a labor of love, and with the hopes that Sara, the vineyard owner, wouldn't go into labor. She established the vineyard while pregnant and attending Umpqua Community College's Viticulture and Enology Program with her father, Sam. The vineyard is her other baby, her putting down of roots, and her brand on the family's long and rich farming history. Our farming philosophy is based on low intervention land stewardship. Our goal is to leave the grapes and the land in the best condition possible for the next generation of farmers.
Vines
Our goal from the outset was to produce the highest quality grapes possible to Oregon winemakers. Today, our vineyard consists of 118 acres of Pinot Noir, 12 acres of Riesling, 10 acres of Pinot Gris, and 10 acres of Chardonnay . We carefully selected clones from Burgundian and Rhine varietals. The vines are on a Vertical Shoot Positioning trellis system to maximize light exposure to the fruit zone. Drip irrigation is used under vine to achieve an optimal balance between fruit, vine, and canopy.
